The three tiers differ in technique, not just in grid size. Easy puzzles come out under line solving. Medium puzzles stall once and need a short branch. Hard puzzles need you to assume a placement and disprove it. Taken in order they work as a progression: fifty puzzles is long enough to make one technique automatic before the next fifty start asking for the one above it.

All 150 solutions are symmetrical geometric patterns, and every grid was machine-checked for a unique solution. The tablet editions run to 307 pages, fully linked from the index to each puzzle, from each puzzle to its answer, and back, so a 307-page file still behaves like a small one.

If you are not sure which tier suits you, this is the safer purchase: you get the level below and the level above whatever turns out to be your speed.

Three volumes, 307 pages.

Each tier is five sizes with ten puzzles at each. Medium and hard share 16×16 and 17×17, so the step between those two books is in the solving rather than the width.

Is this the right one?

  • You already know you like nonograms and want a year of them.
  • Working up through the levels in order appeals more than picking one.
  • It is a gift and you do not know the recipient's level.

Not sure? The free sample has five puzzles in all five formats, with no email address or account. It is the same layout the books use, so it also tells you whether the pages sit well on your device.
